we are going to have over 100 characters in our game, so I am going to combine x amount of them into the same atlas. That is working well already.
Question 1: Since later you're going to be able to choose any of them at any point I am thinking about a reasonable tradeoff between number of characters per sheet and sheet size. What is a good texture size for mobile games? 10241024 or is it even 20482048? Thinking about "low end" devices here, meaning iPhone 5.
Question 2: More a unity question: Are rectangluar atlasses in the end wasting space? Meaning: Is unity packing rectangular textures (let's say 512256) as square textures (512512) and hence "wasting space"? Should I create square atlasses directly?
