beginner help: not sure how to set up images

When I import data from json file, or open a project, the set up page is blank. I have the spine trial. For example I open up the project, spineboy-ess, but I can only see it on the preview not on setup. Or another example, I import a json file, and the images are all in the hierarchy, but not on the set up. Clicking and dragging doesn't work. I'm sure there's an easy way to fix my problem.

It looks similar to a bug we fixed recently. Restarting Spine should fix it and it shouldn't happen in the latest beta (3.7.78-beta). Does it happen after you restart Spine?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried restarting Spine, and reinstalling it, but it still has the problem. It is 3.7.780-beta. I found a workaround where I can load the image files from the hierarchy, and one by one drag the images to the set up. However if I load the .json file through Import Data, the set up screen is a flat grey, and if I create a new project from that point on, it'll continue to have that problem, where the workaround doesn't even work.

Is this problem in the essentials/pro versions?

Can you please post or email us the JSON file you are importing that causes the problem? contact@esotericsoftware.com

If you see the issue in the trial, then likely it will happen in Essential or Professional.

Doing a little testing, I found that when using the Spine to Photoshop script, if you check "trim whitespace," the json file will import into Spine without any problems. However, if I don't check "trim whitespace" in the script, there will be problems. I included an example of a json file I was trying to import without "trim whitespace" that isn't working for me and another file with "trim whitespace" on, which works fine. They are from identical psd files. Hope that helps.

Thank you for including the json files. I've managed to reproduced the error in Spine Trial, so Nate will probably be able to get a new version up very soon with a fix.

I didn't encounter any problems using Spine Pro, but I can't rule out that there could be potential issues with it.

Your JSON files have data like this:

"Layer 29": { "x": NaN, "y": NaN, "width": 627, "height": 730 }

NaN means "not a number". I tried the latest script (2.8) and I see the same problem when whitespace stripping is not checked! Sorry about that, we missed it because most of the time it is checked. We've fixed the script (2.9) and you can get the latest here:
