  • Select and change Draw Order for multiple slots in Animate

Trying to figure out the best way to select and change the draw order for multiple slots at a time in Animate Mode.

In Setup mode, I can "box select" all of the slots, and drag them all as a group in the Draw Order section.

In Animate Mode I can't "box select" or ctrl+click to select the slots to move them all at once.

Video showing what I'm attempting to do:

I know I can select multiple slots manually within the Draw Order section, but with a character who has a ton of slots with similar names (like in mine, Twig 1, Twig 2, Twig 3) there isn't an easy way to know which slots belong to the "leg" section of the character.

Thanks for any help!

1) Filter the tree to show only slots by clicking the slot filter button:

Your filter should look like:

Note when bones are hidden, the Draw order node is gone because the slots shown are also the draw order.

Or alternatively you can show both bones and slots. The key thing is to not show attachments in the tree, this way when you select attachments in the viewport, their slot will be selected in the tree.

2) Disable bone selection (ctrl + shift + B) so you don't accidentally box select bones.

3) Box select in the viewport and slots are selected in the tree. Note that you can't make a selection containing more than one attachment type, eg you can't select both a mesh and a region at the same time.

Note you can click to select an attachment of a type, then ctrl + box select will add to the selection only attachments of that type. This can also be useful to avoid box selecting bones even when you didn't disable bone selection (step 2 above).

4) After selecting slots, you can use - or = to move the slots up/down. Hold shift to jump by 5. This may be better than dragging, since you don't have to drag in the tree it is faster and you can select and move multiple slots that may not be next to each other in the draw order.

Instead of the above you could do the tedious work to manually select the slots, then add them to a selection group (ctrl+1, ctrl+2, etc then recall using 1, 2, etc). The downside is you can run out of selection groups.

Thanks for the reply Nate!

It looks like, for some reason, I'm only able to box-select Slots that contain Meshes while in Animate Mode. I can't select multiple Slots that contain regular image "Region" attachments.

I opened another project of mine to make sure it wasn't something project specific, and its the same for that one too. I don't recall changing any sort of setting that would reflect this - and it sounds like, from what you're saying, that I should be able to box select normally while in Animate Mode? Hmm...

(In Setup Mode I can box-select everything as normal)

Regions can't be manipulated in animation mode, so they can't be selected there. It has always been this way, though I thought we had allowed regions to be clickable in animate mode to make it easier to jump to their slot. I'll have to dig into why that got removed.

FWIW, you can jump between animate and setup mode with ctrl + TAB.

Thanks Nate! Filtering to Slots only, box-selecting in Setup Mode, and then switching to Animate Mode allowed me to move them all as you suggested. :grinteeth:

Edit: Oh, and I am able to click a single Slot (with Region attachment) in Animate mode to jump to that Slot. Just wasn't able to select multiple
