I dunno. Just the content of the posts, and also the large space between the topic titles and the numbers on the right when browsing topics.
They look too wide at the default 16pt-relative. I'm using a 22" desktop monitor at 1920x1080.
Regarding the post contents, I've read typography books that recommend never letting paragraphs go past 2.5 alphabets wide but I think that's for articles and books and things. I've also read it's also related to leading and stuff.
I'd say 3.5 is forgivable for a forum.
This is for the sake of readability, of course.
2.5
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvqxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvqxyzabcdefghijklmn
3.5
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvqxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvqxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvqxyzabcdefghijklmn
It could also be something else. I never really noticed the old layout being too wide, if it was at all.
Maybe it's some of the boxes and text being relatively flush against the much wider container.
I think I may have to put hard linebreaks in my posts from now on.
Also, my signature has scrollbars for some reason. π
PS
π I'd probably set my font size to 22pt too if i had an 18" 1920x1080 screen.
I've used a laptop that's around 15 or 17" (didn't really measure" but with a 1680x1050 resolution and things looked really small. π
