  • Spine 1.8 update information

Spine 1.8 is now available. It requires the Spine launcher to be downloaded and reinstalled. To download Spine again, use your private download link that you received when you purchased Spine. If you can't find the email with your download link, please email us from the email address we have on file for your account: contact@esotericsoftware.com

Before reinstalling, you may want to read the rest of this post. Thank you for your patience as we make this transition to the new launcher!

How it works

With the Spine launcher prior to 1.8, it would automatically update to the latest version, which could be annoying. You could set a specific version to prevent updating, but you could only choose from versions you had previously downloaded. Note if you uninstall Spine, all your previously downloaded updates are deleted!

With the new launcher, it always asks before updating. Also, it can download any update you need, even if you haven't previously downloaded it. However, the oldest update it can download is 1.8.00.

Edit: This is no longer true, the oldest version it can download is now 1.7.12, which should make it easier to use the new launcher even before you are ready to move to 1.8.00. To use 1.7.12 with the new launcher, run it and let it update to 1.8.02 or higher. Next, click the logo in the upper left, then Settings and choose update 1.7.12. If you don't see update 1.7.12 in the list, it means your launcher is too old. Your launcher version needs to be 1.8.02 or higher, so in that case please download and reinstall Spine again (sorry!). You can see your launcher version in spine.log:

Windows: <user home folder>\Spine\spine.log
Mac: <user home folder>/Library/Application Support/Spine/spine.log
Linux: <user home folder>/.spine/spine.log

Issues

Currently there is a performance issue that causes 1.8.00 to run a bit slower than it used to. On fast computers this is not very noticeable, but less powerful computers may notice the difference. We are working on a fix, please stand by. Until then, you can still use the latest launcher, just choose 1.7.12 as described above.

Another known issue is that the icon in the taskbar on Windows is not the correct icon. This will be fixed soon, but is lower priority.

So what's new in this version? Changelog update? 🙂

Downloading latest launcher and pegging to 1.7.12 worked like a charm. Phew! Thanks Nate.

Hi, we have about 15 skeletons in our spine project and animation is really slow. With about 5 skeletons it works good, but in previous version 15 skeletons weren't a problem

@edrache, yep we're aware of the problem and are working to solve it, hopefully we can have a fix out for it within the next 24 hours cause it's definitely a problem!

Ok, 1.8.03 is up and the performance problems should be fixed. See, 20 dragons!

Performance confirmed 🙂 Thanks for fixing!

Well... I opened an old file and the draw order got messed up.

I reorganized the draw order in "Setup" mode, but when I changed back to "Animate" mode, the draw order got messed up again. The slots in the "Draw Order" hierarchy are not staying at where I put them. It's like they keep going back to the original draw order.

I created a new file and set a simpler character from scratch. The draw order is still doing the same thing.

Anyway, I really have to animate lots of stuff right now, and I've already did the update, is there a way for me to download the older release again?

EDIT
Okay, I've downgraded to 1.7.12

Everything is working again.

cloudcamaleoniv, 1.8.06 was released 45 minutes ago that should fix the draw order problem.

Something wrong with bounding boxes. and output is not visible with latest runtimes.

Thanks. I just fixed a bug where bounding boxes were shown even when hidden. Is this what you were seeing? What output is not shown with what runtime? I exported spineboy to JSON and it worked in spine-libgdx.

output behavies very strange. some of them scaled maybe 10 times (with y axis) some just not beeng drawn. when exporting same with 1.7.12 all works

By the way Bounding boxes still not fixed in 1.8.07 version. i have 10 skins for boxes and all are shown.

Here is the broken output. which is not shown in the game.

Can you post your project file or email to contact@esotericsoftware.com?

I just fixed bounding boxes being shown when a slot is hidden. Other than that, they seem to be working. Maybe your project file will help me see the problem.

All works in 1.8.08 thanks a lot Nate.
