Can't import old .skel
Hi,
I can't import the attached .skel file, it gives me an error saying "An error occured while importing the skeleton. Please be sure to choose a valid skeleton JSON or binary file". It's from an old game which was released back in 2014 I believe.
What could be the problem?
You can only import data into the same version that exported it. Sometimes JSON data from other versions can be accepted, but it is not guaranteed or supported. Binary data from a different version is very unlikely to be accepted. You should use your Spine project file instead, which can be opened by any newer versions.
You can set your version back to an older version in the settings:
Settings - Spine User Guide: Version
You can import the data in that older version, save a Spine project file, then open that in newer Spine versions.
The problem is, I don't have the spine project.
I was hoping someone could help figuring out which version this binary could have came from, since I failed finding it.
Newer Spine binary files have a version number near the beginning of the file. Unfortunately this one seems pretty old and doesn't have a version number. I'm afraid you'd need to try it in some older versions. You could use the dates on the changelog to narrow it down.
Are you sure you can't find the project files in your backup folder?
Windows: <user home folder>\Spine\backup\
Mac: <user home folder>/Library/Application Support/Spine/backup/
Linux: <user home folder>/.spine/backup/
